How to Enter

Schools are encouraged to only submit high quality entries. Schools may choose to separate those entries they wish to be judged from those they wish to not go on to judging, but still be acknowledged with a participation certificate. 

2010 Optional theme ‘I Hear Music'.  

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE SUBMITTED ONLINE FOR SENIOR STUDENTS.  LOWER AND UPPER PRIMARY AGE STUDENTS HAVE AN OPTION TO ENTER ONLINE OR DOWNLOAD THE ENTRY FORM AND SUBMIT VIA MAIL.

  • Write a poem on the theme of ‘I Hear Music' or on a topic of your own choice. 
  • All entries are to be typed in Arial or Times New Roman font.
  • Poems must be limited to a maximum length of 80 lines. 
  • All fields in the entry area must be completed. 
  • Each individual entry should be copied and pasted into the area provided. 
  • No more than three entries will be received from any one student. 
  • One invoice only will be sent to each participating school via return email immediately following lodgement of the first poem.
  • Please return the bottom portion of the invoice, with your cheque for $15, to Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards, PO Box 113, Gunnedah NSW 2380.
  • Your receipt will be issued by email after your payment is received and processed.
  • Entries will close at midnight on Friday 16th July 2010. 
  • Postal, fax or emailed entries will not be accepted (except for optional Upper and Lower Primary).
  • Winners will be announced during National Literacy and Numeracy Week 2010 (30th August to 5th Septmber 2010)

 
Conditions of Entry

  • ‘Award Categories and Prizes’ and ‘How to Enter’ form part of the Conditions of Entry.
  • Only students enrolled in Australian education facilities are eligible to enter. 
  • All poems must be the student’s own work and not copied or reworded from another poem.
  • Class and group poems will be accepted. 
  • Postal, faxed or emailed entries will not be accepted (except for optional Upper and Lower Primary).
  • Poems will be judged on originality, imagery, use of language and construction. 
  • The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. 
  • Copyright remians with the author, however, the Dorothea Mackellar Memorial Society Inc. reserves the right to have any entry published, reproduced or publicised. 
  • Entrants may be asked to assist in media publicity in the form of comments and/or photographs. 
  • An entry fee of $15 (incl. GST) is payable per school. Cheques should be made payable to the Dorothea Mackellar Memorial Society Inc.
