Regional Poetry Workshops, July 2011

A number of poetry workshops were hosted by the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards in July 2011, funding for this initiative was kindly provided by Santos Ltd.

Jackie Hosking, a Melbourne based author, who specializes in rhyming and metrical poetry, spent three days in the north west NSW touring local schools.

The feedback from teachers and students has been extremely positive, " Everyone really enjoyed it, Jackie was terrific - it was a very interesting and informative session." The children wrote their own poems based on Dorothea Mackellar's famous work "My Country".

Participating schools included Quirindi Public, Willow Tree Public, Scone Public, Mullaley Public, Premer Public, Tambar Springs and Spring Ridge schools, Coolah Central, Coonabarabran High and Gilgandra Public.
